random postings about all things media (that interest me), quite a wide field as i am discovering + by association whatever else is going in my life. me, currently finding my way through a BA in Media Studies at rmit university in melbourne and trying to do more things film/tv related than i generally have time for.

sitting on my arse

all day. which is a pity, because it's so nice outside - perfect for riding at 21 degrees celsius and clear skies overhead. still, i have spent most of the day gazing at the lovely new imac (just a 15" though). finally uni has got their act together and replaced the jelly beans that use to be here. finished off my hypertext assignment, enjoying the ease of site layout using cascading style sheets, with a little help from james mcnally's review of eric meyer's new css book "...on css". makes me want to move this thing off of blogger (don't tell them i said that) and start customising it. or maybe i can do that here...

new trails

went for a ride for riding's sake yesterday. most of my riding of late has been simply of the commuting sort. kinda boring, but more fun than the train, and you get to drag-race city traffic off the lights. bike 3, cars 0. good sprint training! it was nice to just head out not really knowing where i was going to end up for a change. stumbled upon some new (for me) dirt stuff, which is always exciting. had a bit of an explore, but had my slicks on, so couldn't go too hard. will have to go back with some real rubber and churn them up. looked like there was some seriously skinny single-track stuff winding through the treed areas. fun!

80 days to go...

...until i take off around the globe. i can hardly believe i'm actually doing this. i've had a bit of a dfi and decided to take next year off of uni and poodle around england trying to make a living in the industry over there. and the best bit is that when i do finally come back and study again, i'll be eligible for austudy (=free money!!). i've already started pumping everyone i know back here for contacts over there, so i'm not going over completely green. one problem (a rather scary one at that) is that i still don't have a job. nor any money. hmmm. things are getting desperate, so i'm looking for some telemarketing work. i figure it's only for 10 weeks. it can't be that bad. can it?

want to

shoot/create/produce(?) a long-form drama series for television. been reading kurt andersen's turn of the century and thoroughly enjoying it. one of the main characters is the producer of a cool sounding cop show, and it sounds like a lot of fun. i know, i know, i can't live in a fictitious world. but i still want to shoot one. keeping the dialogue to a minimum, borrowing visual styles from queer as folk (the original uk version) and six feet under...well, as much borrowing as is possible on wee fraction of the budget that would be avaialable for either of those shows. so yeah...got any ideas?

i'm gonna fly away

went and checked out airfares the other day - looks it's actually gonna be cheaper to get a round-world ticket so i can go melbourne-edmonton-toronto-new york-london-bangkok-melbourne, which is what i wanted to do anyways, rather than just to canada and back. i can't hardly wait.

sleeping

too much. eating crap. wandering aimlessly. what to do, what to do....get off the couch. grab the bike, take it for a spin. ignore the cold, embrace the sun. forget everything. doing nothing is okay. 'tis allowed. just don't do nothing forever. every minute of every day does not need to be filled with something. run.

breathe

it's over. the last thirteen (and then some) weeks have been exhausting/intense/relentless. i don't know if this is a reason or an excuse, but since it's up to me when and what i write i'm not terribly bothered. except i always think i should be writing more. and of course i've left this entry to the last minute before having to jump on a tram to meet a friend with whom i'm going off to the theatre (something else i'm planning to do more of) to see another friend perform in a play called seamonster. i know nothing about it, but will tell all tomorrow. more stuff to be done this week - checking out some of what is music ?, going over my lecture notes from adrian to try and work out what to add to my reading list (probably would have helped if i read this stuff during the subject), and working out how this exchange trip to toronto is going to work. i can't wait!

blogging as documentary

really gotta run off and write some more essay...but came across the date project and was reminded of a documentary that was mentioned to us during a documentary studies lecture about a guy who made a documentary about his new relationship. unfortunately i don't know much more about the particular doc, as we were only shown one or two excerpts...i can't even remember the name of it...anyways, the guy behind the date project is blogging (documenting?) his attempts to find a girlfriend. complete with soundtrack listings!
